Title: Rad Racing Cyclocross/MTB Coach
Cycling History: 6 times on the USA Cyclocross World Championship team. Best finish in the frozen, forgotten wasteland of Poprad Slovakia, 23rd place. I have seen a lot of cool places in Europe due to my cyclocross adventures. More places and courses than the "experts" that have seen all the videos. I would trade that for nothing. USA National Cyclocross Championships podium 4 times. 3rd Place twice, a 4th and a 5th place. Dabbled in Mountain Biking a little, but it really was never as fun as Cyclocross. I got 9th place in my first Pro Mountain Bike race. Never got close to that again. I have never tried the track. Not enough time in this world for another cycling discipline. Road racing is OK, but I could never really get my head wrapped around racing smart. I just love to go hard. So I was always spent for the big sprint finish. And I am from the old school days of off roading, where you go far and fast. So I really don't leave the ground enough to want to try BMX. Besides BMX nearly killed Jim.
Category: Cat 2 road; Cat 1 Cyclocross; Expert MTB (former Pro)
Why I work with Juniors: Because when I was a junior, well,,,,, Mountain Biking and Cyclocross really did not exist yet. Yes I am old! But if it did, I think I would have been all over it. Especially if a program such as Rad Racing existed. So really, I am trying to be part of something that I wish that I had as a young kid. And thankfully Jim has the same or a similar vision.
Favorite Pro: Adrie Van Der Poel, Marc Gullikson, Bart Wellens, Thomas Frischknecht.
Favorite Food: Just about anything, but mostly my mothers potato salad.
Favorite Kind of Music/Band: Just about anything that uses real musical instruments and not computers or drum machines to make. With real people that sing. Except country music. Country music just kind of makes me mean.
Favorite Movie: I am really challenged in this area. A long time ago, I just quit watching TV. And for some reason that included movies. So I really don't see many.
Favorite Quote: There have been many a quote that I have heard and used. But the one that will always stick with me comes from non other than Dear Old Dad. When I would struggle with something as a kid, usually homework, I would say "Dad, I can't do it." Dad would come right back with "Can't never did anything." So if you tell me you Can't do something, you know what I am going to say. Thanks Dad!
